Update: The Cradle Mountain Film Festival has now been cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19.

Sure, watching a movie in a cinema is fun, but watching a movie in a yurt in the Tasmanian wilderness takes it to the next level!  Grab your mates and head to the Cradle Mountain Film Festival on the first weekend in April to experience films and adventure like never before.

From 3-5 April 2020, the Cradle Mountain Film Festival will be screening the best adventure films from around the world in a cinema yurt. See what it’s like to run the Appalachians in Like Harvey Like Son, chase waves and waves personal loss in Rogue Waves, overcome a shark attack to go onto to become a fearless athlete in Unstoppable, or embark on a journey through the Canadian mountains in This Mountain Life. These incredible films will have your heart pumping and palms sweating as you experience adventure like never before.

Not only that but for one day only, on Sunday 5 April, five local mountain huts will also open their doors to the public for exclusive screenings of short adventure films. Over five hours you’ll embark on a self-guided tour of these five mountain huts, some which aren’t usually open to the public. Films are screened as you arrive, so there’s no waiting around and you can keep exploring the incredible region.

The Cradle Mountain Film Festival has a jam-packed full program of other activities to keep you busy the entire weekend. Once you’ve seen the flicks, you can embark on the Dove Lake Classic Trail Run, take part in acro-yoga, feel endlessly relaxed with some Thai massage tutorials, activate your senses with some cold water therapy or go wild with some canyoning. With so many things to do, it’ll be hard to choose where to begin!

Tickets start from $110 for six flicks, or you can see the whole thing for $140. Book early because spaces for this unique festival are limited.

But if you’re heading to Cradle Mountain in April, you’re going to want to be prepared for the cold weather! Pack a parker and a good pair of gloves to keep yourself warm.
