If you’ve only got one day in Hobart, then you want to make the most of it. Lucky for you we’ve created a must-do itinerary so you can see the best the city has to offer. Read on to see what you should do if you have 24 hours in Hobart. 

8am – Breakfast in North Hobart

Kick-start your day by enjoying a devine breakfast in the hip and happening North Hobart. The area is full of lively cafes serving some of the city’s best food. A stand-out choice is Born in Brunswick, which delivers great food in a thriving environment. 

10:30am – Museum of New and Old Art (Mona)

No trip to Hobart would be complete without a stop at the contemporary art gallery, Mona. There’s a wonderful, yet controversial, private collection of 300 artworks on display in a building that’s sure to impress. While you’re there enjoy lunch at the restaurant on the lawn overlooking the on-site vineyard. It’s a must-do if you only have one day in Hobart.

3pm – Go shopping and wander Hobart CBD

Spend some time wandering around Hobart CBD and gaze at the city’s unique Georgian architecture buildings. If you need a pick-me-up, then grab a coffee and a treat to go from local coffee roaster Vilicia cafe. If you have time during your one day in Hobart, keep going to shop in one of the city’s many boutique stores downtown. 

4pm – Drive to the top of kunanyi/Mount Wellington

It’s a quick trip to the top of Mount Wellington, which is perfect if you only have one day in Hobart. Weaving through the rainforest on your way to the top, makes you forget that you’re still only minutes from downtown Hobart. Once you’re at the summit, you can enjoy stunning views across the city from various lookouts. There’s an enclosed shelter or if outdoor lookouts if you want to brave the weather. Just remember to pack your warm clothes – it’s cold no matter what time of the year!

6pm – Head to Salamanca for dinner and drinks

The bustling Salamanca precinct has a range of great restaurants, pubs and bars making it the perfect place for a night out. Set among converted sandstone warehouses, these venues have character and charm that will be sure to impress. Make your way down to Jack Greene and sample one of their delicious burgers, paired with one of the many local beers available on tap. Afterwards head around the corner to local pub Preachers, where you can enjoy the vibrant beer garden that features an old converted bus. 

Finally, it’s time to head back to your hotel

Our hot tip – pack clothes for any weather

Hobart’s known for having four seasons in one day – it can be sunny one minute, and cold and rainy the next. So it’s best to wear layers and pack for any weather so you don’t get caught out! We recommend packing a coat or jacket (click here to browse the huge collection from the online store the Iconic). While you’re there, be sure to check out their range of scarves and gloves too!
